The skin barrier is a thin layer of cells that surround your body. Its main job is to keep water in and keep bacteria out, but it also helps prevent damage from chemicals and ultraviolet radiation.

The skin barrier can be damaged by many things: harsh soaps, sun exposure and even stress can weaken it over time. This makes it more difficult for your body to fight off infections or heal itself after an injury or surgery--which is why we need to take special care when caring for our skin!

There are three main types of barrier repair treatments:

Barrier repair creams. These are the most common and least expensive type of skincare product on the market. They work by hydrating your skin and helping it retain moisture, which helps to maintain a healthy skin barrier.

Hydrocolloid bandages (also known as hydrogels). These products adhere directly to your face, forming an effective seal between your skin and any irritants that may come into contact with it (like makeup or dirt). They're great for people who have acne or rosacea because they allow you to wear makeup without causing irritation or clogging pores.

Moisturizers with ceramides or other lipids added in order to reduce water loss through evaporation while also strengthening cell membranes so they don't break down as easily under stressors like UV light exposure.

How to Choose a Skin Barrier Repair Product

When you're looking to purchase a skin barrier repair product, there are several things to consider. First and foremost: what ingredients do you want it to have?

Ceramides

Ceramides are natural lipids that help keep your skin hydrated and soft. They also help prevent water loss from the outer layer of your epidermis (the stratum corneum). You can find them in many different foods such as eggs, wheat germ oil or salmon roe.

Glycerin

Glycerin helps hold moisture in the stratum corneum by attracting water molecules from other parts of your body into it. This helps keep your skin soft and plump even when exposed to harsh weather conditions or dry environments like heated rooms or air conditioning units that pull moisture out of our bodies through evaporation.*

How to Use Skin Barrier Repair Products

There are a few ways to use skin barrier repair products. The first is to apply them after every shower or bath, which will help you maintain healthy skin. If your skin is already in good condition, this may be all that's necessary for maintaining it.

Another option is to use these products once per week as part of an overall skincare routine (you can also use them on top of other treatments). This gives your body time between applications so it has time to absorb the nutrients before they're washed away by water or sweat during exercise or work like gardening.
